On a fifteen minute drive away from the cottage you’ll be able to find the authentic village of Arolithos – a place certainly worth a visit. In the early 80s Mister Saloustros decided to give something back to Crete, the land he was born and raised in. The memories from his youth, the Cretan traditions and the beautiful authentic villages aided him in coming up with a fantastic idea: to replicate a traditional Cretan village with the possibility of staying over-night in a hotel, holding conferences, following workshop and above all honouring the old traditions.
He brought his dream to live together with the two architects who designed most of the building plans. Over the course of two years he moved from village to village to collect objects for his village. His grandfather helped the dream along by giving him the ground to build on; formally a place for sheep.
Mister Saloustros’ dream was realized in 1988. He and his wife, Marika, now have four children (Janis, Eleni, Michalis and Vagelis) and together they run the village with pride.
How to get there:
From Zeus, drive down the mountain and towards the road Gazi – Tilissos. After driving in the direction of Tilissos for about five minutes you should find Arolithos on your right-hand side.
